JEREMIAH – THE MANDATES OF JERUSALEM
Intro.
Jeremiah was given the task of delivering an unpopular, convicting message to Judah, one that caused him great mental anguish as well as making him despised in the eyes of his people. The lost sees God’s words as “foolishness” but therein lies our salvation (1 Corinth. 1:18). They will not endure the truth (2 Tim. 4:3-4).
This is true of the world today, as believers who are following God’s instructions are warning the lost and dying world of impending judgment (Rev. 3:10). Notwithstanding, as Jeremiah stood and fulfilled his mandates, we must equally persevere in proclaiming the truth in order to rescue some from the terrible judgment that will inevitably come.
Jeremiah was to reprove evil and magnify the name of Jehovah, the Almighty God of Israel before the people of Judah and heathen nations. The following were the evils to be reproved and must equally be done today:
1) Idolatry (Jer. 2:13,19; 10:11; 13:10)
2) They set up idols inside the temple (Jer. 7:30, 32:34-35)
3) They sacrificed their own children (Jer. 7:31; 19:4-5; 32:35)
4) They were highly covetous and deceitful (Jer. 6:13; 8:10; 22:17)
5) They served an abundance of gods breaking the covenant with the one true God (Jer. 11:9-14)
6) They and their forefathers had evil hearts (Jer. 16:8-12)
7) They took the host of heaven as their friends and saviors (Jer. 44:16-19)
8) The people loved the false prophets (Jer. 5:30-31; 14:14-16)
9) Judah is compared to a wild donkey in heart that lustfully pursues any lover (Jer. 2:24-25)
10) Judah is compared to a shameless prostitute (Jer. 3:6-8; 13:27)
We must not only preach BUT live by what we preach. THIS IS CRITICAL FOR ANY GENUINE SOUL WINNER.
