THE CITY OF REFUGE PART THREE – FLEE FOR YOUR LIFE

>Dinah, the only daughter of Jacob, is the first of his children to be given major narrative attention.  While on a journey, she is raped by Shechem, a member of the ruling Canaanite family.  Gen. 34:1-4

Her brothers Simeon and Levi  murder Shechem and his father, and every male in town; they rape all the women and pillage the city Gen. 34:25-29

Amnon summoned Tamar and rapes her while she protests. 2 Sam. 13:1-32

F.L.E.E.

F - fill yourself with Christ.

Seducer are everywhere, flee. Prov 9:17-19

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee

Hunger and thirst of fleshly lust conquered only in Christ John 6:35; Col 3:16; John 4:14

L - lock out the lies.

Our flight from sexual immorality requires that we lock out the lies that give it power. Or, as Solomon said, “keep your way far from her” Prov. 5:8; Prov. 7:13-23

Lock out evil sites on your smartphone, internet and gatherings. Matt. 18:9; Prov. 9:15

E - exchange lies for truth.

Unless we retreat from the world, we’re going to encounter seductive lies. Actually, we lie to ourselves. We are born exchanging the truth about God for a lie, along with everything else, including sex Rom. 1:25-26

God is not stingy, but good Deut 10:12-13

Sinful pleasures are not filling, but fleeting Heb 11:24-26

It will not be easy to turn back, as you are already hardening your heart Heb 3:13.

Are you embracing lies, or exchanging them for the truth? Prov 7:26.

E - expose yourself to the light.

If you fall to sexual sin you will be tempted to hide in the dark and pretend it didn’t happen.

God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5-7

Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another James 5:16
